Our gas service was decommissioned last week.  The process for removal was almost identical to my previous article on electricity abolishment.

For a gas service there are two steps; the removal of the gas meter and the removal of the service line from the main.  I’m told this can happen in two separate visits, however in our case I believe they were both done in the same appointment.   If the meter is removed first, the gas line would be capped (the middle pipe in the photo below) until such time as the service line is removed.

The cost for meter removal is approximately $65 for our distributor and no cost for the service line removal.  In terms of timeframe, about three weeks elapsed from when we vacated the premise for it to be actioned.
